when people use the excuse that we lost a lot of players last year, it's pathetic. We have more than just two starters coming back from last year, and even if that's all we had losing to Army 35-16, losing to Tulane and Kansas is very inexcusable. But again we gave up 35 points to Army, no excuse for Holtz and the coaches there. I don't like to complain, but I'm Tired of all these excuses being made for Holtz!

I am a USF alum. I came in earlier this year to warn of Skip Holtz's ineptness. I was cursed at, called names, and got exactly what I expected. I didn't want to see this happen to Tech. I really liked the style of football they brought to the table and respected the fan base. Look at how bare the cupboard is at USF this year. Watch the terrible roster that is there. It is the ghost of Christmas Future if you don't sever all ties soon. He is all talk with no punctuation or breathing in his post game interviews. He's not a good coach and I'm sorry you guys have to deal with it now. Sorry.

You have to give the guy a couple of years, imo.
You don't have to give him a couple of years when you gave him, arguably, the easiest schedule in FBS. We played less than mediocre games against Tulane and KU and might have pulled out the win if we had a more experienced kicker or if we hadn't made untimely turnovers, but we were ultimately out-coached. The same talent and inexperience with a competent head coach would have won those games.

On the other hand, we were completely outclassed by NC State and Army. NC State is approximately average, and it was our first game, so I expected major hiccups there. Army is one of the worst teams in the country, and they made our O-Line look like first-season Pop Warner players.

    Re: Fire Holtz

    I'm just perplexed.

    - He appeared to have built something at UConn.
    - He appeared to have built up ECU.
    - He had one good year and two horrible years at USF. Bad years blamed on injuries . . . which happens.
    - NC State, Lamar, and half of Tulane we had the wrong QB. Dykes proved he couldn't do any better in evaluating QB talent several times.
    - Kansas actually looked like a pretty good game with some horrible luck. I came away from that game thinking we were about to start clicking . . .

    and then the Army "game".

One of the worst passing defenses in the country and we choose to run for the first three plays (3 and out)!

That was just amazingly HORRIBLE; an abortion of effort really. It literally looked like we asked drunk middle age guys from the Midway to play defense that morning. Every, EVERY DAMN PLAY, they were guaranteed 4 yards. How can any team be that ill-prepared? Morgan State managed to figure out how to slow Army down better than we could with AA talent in frigin West Point!

UTEP has to be the tipping point. Dooley may have had the coaching knowledge of a tree, but his teams were scared to death of not giving it their all. If we play with no emotion against UTEP and continue to run up the middle multiple times in a row for no apparent reason . . . I'm sold that we have an Ellis Johnson on our hands.

Don't you think you're being a little impatient?? In HD's screwed up world, Ryan Allen would have been benched.
Comparing our current punter to Ryan Allen is the equivalent of comparing Skip Holtz to Bill Walsh. Of course in Doc Marvin's "screwed up world", he doesn't know the difference. :icon_wink:

When you read what the ECU posters say - if was because of the talent that was left on the table when he got there under Johnson and then not having the ability to get anyone on campus once they left and that's why Ruffin McNeil's first two teams were mediocre

    Not good vs. Tulane

    Very good vs. Kansas

Not good at all vs. Army
I know for a FACT when I see a terrible punter. And ours is terrible.

People like MD have got to get past the "little boy" stuff, and start expecting LA Tech's players to perform like MEN. Right now, most of them --especially the special teams guys-- are performing like little boys. For example, I thought our placekicker and his "holder" were going to go to fist city right after that missed chip shot FG on Saturday. Wouldn't that have been good for our national TV ratings?

I don't know what's going on with our special teams....but they are god awful.

Yea, I saw that. I was hoping maybe he is the type of leader that assembles a good team and gets out of the way . . . and the staff assembled doesn't look this horrible.

I'm going to start selling "What Dwayne Said" shirts at the next game.

If you're really sorry and want to make amends, hire him back. To really show you're sorry, cover his payout as well....we can use the money.

I don't know much about his stint at ECU, other than the fact that he inherited and had Chris Johnson at running back and return specialist for 3 years.

The same Chris Johnson that ran a 4.24 at the combine and was a first round pick for the Titans. The same Chris Johnson that is one of the only 2K rushers in the history of the NFL and is one of the top 5 backs in the last 15 years. He may have had an impact on HCSH's success in Conference USA.

This garbage about having new starters at all these positions is old hat. It's misleading because ALOT of these "new" starters on offense are juniors or seniors. Idc ab if they transferred/or are juco's, as a junior or senior you should be able to step in and play at a competitive level.
