That's BS. Don't be foolish, Tyler. Dykes did exactly what he was hired to do -- WIN! He did it, and he did it well. His teams were incredibly exciting to watch, and brought our university more respect than we had ever experienced. While in Ruston, Dykes won a conference championship, earned a Top 25 national ranking and competed in a very high quality bowl game. And because of his success, Tech eventually earned an invitation to CUSA.
I could go on, but his results speak for themselves.
Yes, I was talking to you, Tyler. You don't have any facts. You're just bitching about "bare cupboards" like Holtz. I gave you facts.....things that actually HAPPENED!!
If it was so easy to get Jucos, then Holtz should do it. God knows, he needs the wins. Patton & company sure worked out pretty well.
He recruited Dixon and King out of high school, and much of our great secondary. Not to say that his JUCO recruiting was perfect, but had he stayed, he may have been able to continue doing so with success just like Bill Snyder from Kansas State (as someone mentioned before); if he could have done that for last year, we may just have made a bowl game. But he left, Holtz came, and Holtz wanted to start from scratch with mostly green high school recruits. I'm not saying that that philosophy is wrong, but it will take 1-2 years for that method to gain success. Had Holtz also gone after more JuCos and transfers last year (he has recruited some both years), then who knows, he could have continued Tech's success right off the bat.
I don't really know what went wrong at SFlorida, but maybe it was his recruiting that messed him up. He did well the first year with his predecessors recruits. He had a leg up at ECU because he had helped his dad at SouthCar. Maybe he didn't recruit the right staff to help him recruit, or whatever. History will tell us how good Holtz is by the end of the year...
I'll be the first (that I've seen) to say it. I've seen some great teams over the years, and I just don't think this OU is that great. I'm not buying into all the talk about them being a title-contending team. I'll be surprised if the Sooners make it to the playoff.
the bold, the beautiful, theprofessor
I thought they looked great in the 1st quarter. Reminded me of that LSU team that was beating us 49-0 at halftime and went on the win the national championship. 2nd and 3rd quarter wasn't so great. Their subs were about like us in the 4th quarter.
Wow. Seems like total lack of preparation. Isn't the holder supposed to make sure everybody is on the field and in the right spot? Isn't a coach supposed to do the same? At worst, it should have cost us a timeout.
The fact that we can't get lined up properly after months of practice is the most ridiculous thing I've seen. Not once, but twice. And nobody caught it until after the play.
