There are several posters that deserve medals for how they kept telling us that Holtz was going to be fine as our coach against rapid fire against them. They did it with class too, without getting too defensive. T1 should be given the benefit of the doubt from now on!
Has it crossed anyone's mind that it's possible he's doing a better job now? That maybe both sides are right. Because honestly, I think the team looks fantastic, getting Diaz and Sokol turned out great. That said I still believe my Labrador Retriever could have coached our team to a win at Kansas last year. And HD and MD could have coached our team to wins against Army and Tulane. What happens if a QB from Iowa sticks it out and doesn't come to to Tech? What happens if our defensive coordinator from last year decided to stay here? Remember, Holtz didn't fire him. But on the flip side, Coach Holtz did get those two talents when they became available so kudos to him for that. Those were good moves. All I'm saying is there is a thin line between where we were in 2012 to 2013 to right now and almost everyone on both sides of this issue had valid points in regards to coach Holtz and the entire Sunshine Pumper vs. Debbie Downer thing is stale. It's played out. So give it a rest. T1 and 65 didn't win tonight. And the people who were down on Holtz certainly didn't feel like they were winning last year. Tech won tonight! Which means we all did. So Go Dawgs Dammit!!
What I see is that we recruited the right players and coaches for the job and Holtz is now calling the offensive plays. I see creativity on offense and a defense that is tight! Holtz was blamed last year for inheriting a depleted team. He went out and got what we needed to put something together and is doing just that. Give those that saw it credit! I am the biggest optimist around and even I did not give Holtz enough credit. I was nervous he was building an average team and that scared me. He wasn't, though, and I am big enough to say JOB WELL DONE to Holtz, his staff, and our team. I, also, am big enough to compliment those that saw it all summer and told us what was coming. It took guts to stand up for Holtz after last year. They were blasted on here and stuck with it. My hat goes off to them!
We were bad on offense last year because we had so many players who had never played college football all trying to learn the game at the same time. It was never about play-calling. It was about the line not blocking well, the QB's not making good decisions, and the WR's not being able to stretch the field. I think y'all knew that, but it feels better to put the blame on just 1 guy (Holtz) instead of realizing that we have a mess to fix and it might take a while.
I will say that I had no idea Holtz is the offensive mastermind he is showing himself to be. His history shows he has had some good offenses at Uconn and Notre Dame, but this offense has to be the best coaching job he has done in his career. It is very impressive what he has done and so quickly. So glad y'all didn't have the power to fire him after game 2 last year.![]()
Good post. It's not as if we were rooting against Holtz. Every Tech fan I know was pulling FOR HIM.
But to your point....if anyone doesn't think the line is "thin" between last year and this year, just look at how Ryan Higgins and our 2nd (and 3rd) teams performed in the 4th qtr against UNT. It was awful. And we could be just one or two injuries away from that.
