They can't be. They didn't play the same teams. But beyond that the freshman actually has the potential to improve over the course of his career. Higgins time is very limited. If there performances are close (and they are) it is not unreasonable to look to the future.Originally Posted by stodgdog

You look to the future with the present is lost. We aren't even in conference play yet! All I want is for the fans, boosters and STUDENTS to support whomever is out there. Support the likes of Tech HOF QB Tim Rattay and HCSH as they make those decisions and not with BS chants! Another in state team had team split and nat'l champ hopes crushed due to QB controversy a few years ago! Go Dawgs!!!!
In all likelihood he will improve over the course of his career, but that isn't the question. According to Holtz, Higgins is a much better QB now than he was as a Fr. That doesn't mean he will not make mistakes. Higgins doesn't need "to show us" anything. It's not our call and we don't have all the data to make an informed decision. All of us want Tech to have the best chance to win games this year.
Of course we all want to see us win. I also don't expect to hear coach entertain our banter about a controversy. However, I think it is fair to believe that no QB deserves to ride the pine while another is out there chucking picks and fumbling. If that is our situation, you have to move on.
Tomorrow will either put this to rest or make the flames hotter. I hope Ryan has a career day and we win in Lubbock tomorrow. Either way it's up to Higgins to put this one to rest. He opened the door, it's up to him to close it.
HCSC will say the game did not matter if we lose due to bad QB play by Higgins. He WILL NOT go down without a couple of losses under Higgins (and his own) belt.
Az State hung 68 on Texas Tech, and tonite, so far, they are being rocked by UTSA's defense...did you see that hit on the QB, whoa! UTSA is bringing the wood. But, ASU's offense looks helpless and anemic (so far). We should score 100 on Tx Tech!
I hope we don't have that to worry about tomorrow. Hopefully the second half Higgins was the real Higgins and not the first half guy. We shall see tomorrow.

Hopefully the performance we saw in the second half of the SCST game will be the Higgins we see the rest of the season.
That's not true at all and I think where a lot of people fall down in this thinking. If Higgins will win us 7 games and Smith will win us 7 games you go with Smith. It's not the same as giving up. Letting a QB controversy linger loses games.
That said I trust the coaches. I hope Higgins puts it to rest today.

Explain to me how Smith's interception was a game changer. Arkansas didn't score, Prince Sam had an interception on that series. You can go back and look at the play by play. Nice try though to change the facts to fit your narrative. You wouldn't by any chance be a democrat would you?
And if you want to criticize a freshman's read and decision, let's go back and look at some of the bone-headed decisions Higgins made when he played as a freshman. Oh yeah, we don't have to because he is still making them against major powers like SC St.
Higgins can quiet the controversy today. I hope he does. But there is nothing I have seen from him to this point that gives me a lot of confidence.
