I don't necessarily disagree with your post above. But my question to you is, have you --and others-- lodged any complaints to Dr. Les Guice about what a poor job you think T-Mac is doing? I highly suspect not. Otherwise I believe we would have seen more fallout here on BB&B about this issue.

One thing I've learned about the folks in Ruston over the last 35 years......YOU HAVE TO TELL THEM, when something is going wrong (e.g., T-Mac's job performance). Otherwise they think everything is going great in Disneyland, and everybody loves the job they are doing.

LG told me he thinks T-Mac is the best hire he's made at Tech.

T-Mac is not your friend. He's not your beer drinking buddy, and he will never ask you to play a round of golf. He's your hired gun. Nothing more. And as I've stated many times before, guys like you and I will be here to pick up the pieces long after his kind have left the building and moved on. But, as long as T-Mac is good at what he does --and good for our school-- then I don't care whether or not he even knows my name.

Whether or not T-Mac is good at his job, is a totally different subject. But your athletic donations go to LA Tech, not to T-Mac.
HG, I think you are wrong on this one. TMac or Mario or someone in the AD's office is supposed to be your best friend. He is supposed to make you feel like a million bucks whether you give $100 or $100,000 dollars a year. It is their job to raise money for Athletics and to raise money you better be glad handing the people every single day. Wine and Dine and Beer Buddies. I am around people all the time and I can tell you even as a introvert if I am not making the people around me feel valued then I am failing at my job. People want to be pampered. They want to know that they are valued. They want to believe they are special.

So yeah it kinda is our AD's job (or someone in his office) to make phone calls, send notes and cards, take people out to lunch, coffee, and dinner.

You're describing my own personality. As for LA Tech AD's, neither Derek Dooley or Bruce Van De Velde ever "made me feel like a million bucks". T-Mac doesn't either, but he is certainly nice enough. But I don't really care. I don't need that from "my" AD, nor do I seek it. As long as he gets the job done, I'll find my own friends without any help from my AD.

Again.....these people are HIRED GUNS. They are NOT your friends. You are terribly mistaken if you think otherwise. And if some of you don't understand that yet, you may need to join Friends.com to find others to socialize with.

Again, why not consider making the AD's salary performance based?

Yeah I don't think TMac is my friend or anybody on here's friend. I am saying someone (Director of Develoment is the term we would use in the non profit field) has to be the smiling bestie that knows how to work people. If you don't have someone making connections every day, sucking up to people everyday, schmoozing people everyday...then you are leaving money on the table.

We live in the day and age where folks want to be thanked and pampered.

In full disclosure, I think TMac is not the worst AD we have ever had. I just think he's young and growing into the role. (Some growing pains)

Obummer said his best decision was selecting crazy Joe Biden as VP....

actually, I agree, that was obummer's best decision. It was a stupid decision and it went downhill from there.

I'd say the last several other than Dooley were all yes men for Dr. Reneau. In BVDV's defense his instructions were probably inconsistent to say the least. He had some good points, but to put it mildly, he was not professional.

Dooley was an ass, but he brought some heavy hitters to the table for us. The Learfield deal had some good points, but IMO it took too much control away from the AD.

Jim Oakes did the job he was hired to do, but D.R. didn't recognize the need for more after we got in the WAC. J.O. was just in over his head. No many guys care as much about LaTech as Jim Oakes.

The 90's was our lost decade. LSU football was in the tank for most of that period. We had an opportunity to really build off of the 1990 Indy Bowl and we squandered it. Reneau is totally to blame and his buddy, Jerry Stovall, is by far the worst AD ever.

If we had properly invested in our program during the 90's and had the right AD we would have been much more prepared for the conference realignments and the BCS era. There is no telling how much money and prestige the short-sighted Reneau cost Tech.

Me, you and Champ967 believe there was a conspiracy to hold us back in the 90's.

I did not include Stovall, but you are correct he was the worst by far. Not even close.

Logical fallacy -- false choice. I shouldn't have to pick between a bromance and getting pooped on. There's plenty of ground in between.

I'd settle for a business manager who treats all his customers with a modicum of respect and professionalism.
