There is something - Russia interfered and Trump would support that investigation if he cared about our Democracy. He is too threatened by the fear that acknowledging Russia interfered will taint his legitimacy he has to continue arguing it is fake news when it is universally accepted by the IC that the highest levels of Russian government were behind the hacking and fake information campaigns. This is more important than Trump. We need to understand this new threat so that we can defend against it.

The statement sounded to me like Trump was pushing for the investigation to continue so he could clear his name. Of course, I think he was motivated by his own ego and self-image rather than any notion of Republican democracy. Am I missing something?

He was pushing Comey to state that he was not the subject of the investigation. Comey said they couldn't do that at this stage of the investigation, because it would create a duty to correct if that changed and it creates a problem with when do you stop saying who is not a target (which ultimately reveals the target).

Comey said today that he woke up in the middle on the night on the following Monday (15th) and realized he needed to let his friend know about the memo.

And has anyone corroborated that Richman was the source for the NYT? The NYT said their anonymous sources were two people that read the memo.

That's the most obvious response.

So now we have active FBI agents leaking official and classified documents. If so those names came out in the closed session.

I just reread that article and it doesn't mention a memo. Comey testified that he told about a half dozen people about the incidents reported in that article.
