Now Now, all of you. I was trying to have a constructive conversation with Kent. And look what this turned into.
That being said, FormerPokeCenter, what do think it will be 10 years from now: "Billy Napier RE/Max" or "Billy Napier Century 21"?
Rock bottom? Not sure how you define rock botttom? 5 out of the last 7 years were winning seasons. 4 of them were 9-4 records. In that time frame 4-1 in bowl games. Even last year 5-7 I wouldn't consider any of that "Rock Bottom." Was it where it needs to be considering the size school and resources available? Obciously not as first year AD Brian Maggard decided to make a coaching move and invested more into the program. If you've got the resources you can spend them. RCAF raised 12.4 mil last year for that reason. I wouldn't say we had to over reach at all in paying assistants. We are basically just stepping up to the plate, and competing with the upper echelon of the G5, which is right where we need to be.

Ron Roberts is a very successful head coach with a defensive back ground. Roberts was the mentor for Dave Aranda. He credits Ron Roberts for much of his defensive knowledge, as he worked under him at Delta State. Rob Sale will continue to not call plays, that will be his good friend Billy Napier. Those 2 completely ran the offense last year at Arizona St, and will continue to do it the same way here. As for over paying coaches not sure how to put a price tag on that? They haven't coached a game yet. If early recruiting is any indicatoion they are worth every penny, as 247 sports has them ranked in the top 3 of all G5 schools, and 54 over all currently, for the 2109 class. If they continue that trend for a few years the success will be soon to follow, in a very big way.

Is this it?
You are right, I get a huge smile on my face every time I see too. I hope you enjoy watching it from start to finish as much as I did.

It says: "Also in Napier's contract is $2 million for assistant coaches and staff."
So that number includes S&C staff plus perhaps whatever full-times managers and trainers are assigned to football, maybe even a dedicated SID person who is full-time. Am I reading that correctly? So it's not really $2 million for the coaches. Correct, Kent?
Kent:
FormerPokeCenter posted this yesterday about the Hudspeth era in Lafayette: I'll quote him: Mark Hudspeth rode his .449 Ragin Cajun winning percentage all the way from being Associate Head coach at Mississippi State to irrelevance, obscurity and disgrace. He had a few stops at academic fraud, improper payments and NCAA rules violations along the way.
Also, signing day in December came and went without a single signee.
Again, I admire your enthusiasm. But FPC's statement is a good indicator of how the Cajun program is viewed outside the Acadiana area and even within the Acadiana era by other fanbases, the LSU fanbase in particular. It's not what Ricky Bustle inherited, but it's still pretty low. Rock bottom is a fairly accurate statement. The Cajun program really needs to get on the field and win some games for that to change.
Since when does USL have four 9 win seasons?
I hate to be the bearer of bad news, but when you CHEAT and the NCAA makes you vacate 22 wins in four years, you don't get to count those games as wins.
They're officially in the record books as...wait for it...LOSSES. Since we're on this topic, what's USL's actual record after the debacle commonly known as the Hudspeth era? I'm gonna guess that you're probably hovering just under .500, as usual.
USL's been mediocre for several generations. It'll be interesting to see if the new guy, with quality staff, can turn that around.
LOL, 9-4...yeah right.
Hell, it took all you guys had to eek out an 8 point win against a subpar, struggling 6-5 McNeese team, despite having a 22 scholarship advantage.
The thing that really speaks volumes about what others around the country think of ULL is the fact that they're still in the Sun Belt Conference. They're still stuck there, while several of their former conference mates (UNT, FAU, MT, WKU, and FIU) were chose over them for membership in CUSA. Despite this fact, the delusional ULL faithful to this day have convinced themselves that now it's only a matter of time before the AAC will be calling to invite them to join that conference. This will happen, of course, only as a precursor to ULL's being invited to join the Big 12 once Texas and Oklahoma leave that conference for the PAC 10. They believe this stuff despite the fact that, once again, one of their major programs (football this time) was just penalized by the NCAA for cheating. Around the country, ULL is known for its reputation as cheaters. It's something that is part of the culture that is Lafayette. A "coon ass" thing, if you will.
