    Re: Serious Conference Realignment Discussion

Our administration not doing what is best for the program or the loyal fans is a problem that I'm not sure I can ever get over. We've moved backwards to the point of where we, perception wise, 40 years ago. I'm about to spend much more time playing golf, fishing, and hunting.

Looks like they are going to force me to give up our baseball season tickets and meager LTAC giving.

It’s not much, but it’s something.
I agree. I like it. Hey.......all this will most likely get better with time too. But LA Tech, WKU, NMSU, UTEP, Liberty and Missouri St are all very good basketball schools, and MTSU has had its' share of BB success too. This a legit basketball conference.

But it all hinges on WKU and MTSU staying in CUSA.

Still a one big league. Means nothing.

But with half as many members. That's something. In fact, that's one thing I like better. Fourteen teams in CUSA was too many to be fighting for one bid. And the Sunbelt will have the same problem with 14 basketball members.

The more I look at this. We need to do what is best for basketball, baseball, and softball. Football is pretty much bottom of the barrel in the newest version of the G5’s. Won’t seem to matter where we are in that sport. Is there a chance we could be a multi-bid league in basketball and baseball?

    Re: Serious Conference Realignment Discussion

Just cruised the Liberty Sports Forum, read thru some threads re: their joining CUSA.

First, so far, only MTSU folks have bothered to welcome Liberty to the conference. Don't know if that means anything, just find it interesting.

Next...I hate dem bastards already! Yes, several Liberty fans boasting they will dominate the league in all the major sports. Arrogant azzholes. Avoid the Christmas rush, start hating Liberty now. "We will dominate the conference," one says. "Yes, in all the major sports," another agrees. Just fan talk on an Internet board, yeah, sure, but that kind of arrogance deserves special recognition. Then others agreed CUSA is only a stepping stone for them. Good enough for a start to be in a football conference. But (and this one kills me) "we have invested too much time and money to settle for this conference."

Really? "too much time..." How long has Liberty had athletics?

Started their football program in 1973 and were NAIA until 1980. Then they were Division II until becoming Div I-AA(FCS) in 1988 and stayed their until the move to FBS in 2018. They have one I-AA playoff win and are 2-0 in bowls in their history. I didn't check their basketball, other sports, history but I guess it's similar.

I think Liberty will make a very good conference mate, and yes, will probably leave us behind at some point in the next 10 years or so. But, as of now, how about a little humility?

Welcome to CUSA, Liberty Flames. (I can see Hogdawg and a few others are going to have fun sparring with those flaming Flame fans!)

I thinks it’s fine. We either put them in their place and they stop, or they keep going, or we get put in our place and they keep going. A little dislike for another program is not a bad thing.

What have we given them to be afraid of? I'm certain they are confident! I hope they do come in with a swagger- no one else has one. We have nothing to boast about around here (hopefully basketball will change that this year) right now!

Unfortunately Football is still “the money sport” in college athletics.

However, a solid 10 school Basketball/Baseball league is nothing to be upset about. Especially since the powers that be are dead set on keeping Skip Holtz for the next 4 years. If the C-USA can start putting two or more teams in the tournament for good runs every year our image and recognition will go up. Money/Finances as well. Require your schools to schedule for success and play up rather than down.

Right now football is a lost cause sinking/stinking ship with Skip steering us into oblivion. Best we can do there is stop putting money in the program until the powers that be decide they actually want to really compete and not just go through the motions.

The only problem with all this optimism is that right now the same higher up people are in charge (Guice & Wood). When we see the obvious decline and apathy in football don’t forget how underachieving women’s basketball is and it’s cruising along with equal aimlessness. Right now Baseball and Basketball are looking good, but even they are probably only an off season or a coach getting hired away from being thrown into mix of sorriness. We all know the saying, “one bad apple...” Well Tech has at least 2, Guice & Holtz. I quit following The Techsters when they became so pathetic, so I can't say how lost they are just going through the motions.

No final decision on Western Kentucky & Middle Tennessee to MAC, but sources told @ActionNetworkHQ move depends if MTSU will go. If so, MAC will add both. If MTSU stays in C-USA, MAC likely wouldn’t invite only WKU, sources said. MTSU hang up is financially motivated, source said

    MTSU knows.

The MAC add zilch and kills their recruiting.

If there is a conference worse than the C-USA 5.0 it is the MAC. If you go MAC, you never come back.

They offer stability. You join the MAC and what happened to CUSA doesn't happen again. Maybe you lose a Buffalo or NIU someday (like they lost Marshall and UCF). Maybe you try something with someone like UMASS that doesn't work out.

But that core group is pretty stable (at least in terms of remaining in a conference together). I guess a couple of schools have serious overall budget concerns.

But I also think it's less of a temptation now that you can see some form of CUSA will exist. When it looked like the whole thing was ending you'd obviously be willing to take anything. Now that we're probably going to survive, at least in the short run, you might as well stick around for all those buy out fees. You could always approach the MAC later.
