In addition to those very fundamental woes Jech’s better players are going to transfer out every year. Right now there are already at least dozens of players who are planning to leave just as soon as they can. Jech’s once great football program is as dead as the once great Lady Techsters are and it’s all because of executive bad decision making.
The right hire can turn a program around in a hurry. ULM is greatly improved in year one of a new coach, Napier turned around ULL, and both of those schools were on life support when they got there.

ULM has a component AD. Made a solid hire. (Although I expect him to be hired back by UAB this year when they finally end the dumb Difler experiment.)

We did not when we hired Cumbie.

We had someone who didn’t have a single clue what to do.

Eric Wood saw the words "Texas Tech" on Cumbie's resume and was impressed.

Too many people would have to buy in unselfishly.

In Harding's case it's all about their brotherhood culture.
Paul Simmons is a wonderful coach with all his assistants from the Harding heritage, except two . . . a Tech graduate who's the QB coach and their nationally known flexbone guru, a volunteer coach who commutes 2 hours each way twice a week to Searcy.
Their defensive coordinator is not too shabby either.

The Byrd coaching staff was in full attendance this past February at the Harding Flexbone Clinic, attended by 267 coaches from 165 high schools, plus some of the Army and Baylor staffs.
