Tech to SBC?

I'm hoping one way or another we stay put for now. CUSA could take measures to make travel more agreeable. In basketball just go to New Mexico every other year. Play two games there one year - say Thursday and Saturday - and then play them twice here the next year. Winning regular season titles are meaningless so don't take traditional home and away traditions so seriously.

Correct me if I'm wrong, but I think there's a much bigger exit fee in the Belt. We don't want to have to contend with that when we have an opportunity to get back in a conference with Rice, UNT, and Tulsa, again.

The articles about Texas State say the SBC buyout is $5million.

I hope we stay put in CUSA. Which, since I rarely get what I hope for, means we will be Belt bound. The powers-that-be will probably kowtow to local pressure, political pressure, justifying the move based on travel savings or some such reasoning. Bottom line this will be, for some of us, we have come full circle, essentially back to where we started from, the old Southland Conference. What's next, reviving the silly State Fair Game vs. the NSU Demons!?

I agree with this post completely... It is a full circle and that means backward. One thing for sure, if we go to the belt, we will stay in the belt. It cuts off upward movement for us.

With the realignment (or consolidation), there's not many places to go for non-power conferences. In the landscape of NLI and portal, I don't see how anyone can sustain success in football. If one is on top of the league with some good players, they'll get raided. Same with coaches. Upward mobility works well if we were in a metro area or have a sizable enrollment.

I really don't care either way. Basketball and Baseball is where we can really compete in.

Of course there’s always that hope it won’t happen. Might be the SBC prefers to stay put for awhile, or maybe they will take another school instead.

@PeteThamel: Here's the Sun Belt's expected options, per sources. They'll either add Louisiana Tech (still the favorite), add Western Kentucky or sit tight at 13 schools. All options are being discussed. There's no July 1 pressure on a decision, which should play out the next few weeks.
