1) aretha franklin appears in this move and sings the song quoted above.

2) if i remember correctly, the song quoted above is sung a capella by a chain gang in the opening scene accomanied only by the rhythmic sound of hammers driving railroad spikes (just before the main characters escape the chain gang).

They did quite well.

Rich Mullins - a liturgy, a legacy & a ragamuffin band
