That's the wonderful thing about America. Ordinary folks can become well off if they are frugal and invest wisely. Somebody making $50k a year can do very well in the long run if they don't spend their money on things they don't need.

Don't let that money burn a hole in your pocket.

As for your statement that it is unamerican to force people to participate in Social Security, that is just a load of BS. Americans are force to do things everyday by their government. What you are saying is that Government is unamerican.

What in the world gave you the idea that I'm "bad" with my money. Glad to hear that you know how markets work.
Evaluating the system and changing the system are two very different things....and Congress with their mostly ignorant constituency are the ones who can change it. They either bump up the premiums at some point or push back the age with which can receive benefit or reduce benefits, and you have no choice in the matter. That is as unAmerican as it gets. It is crap.

No choice in the matter? It's called representative government, and while it may seem crappy, it is far better than other forms of government.

While I understand your disappointment with the unfairness of the modern post-industrial society, America is still a great country. Go buy yourself a nice 10 acre farm and disconnect from all the unAmerican activities around you.

Social security is not a mandated product. It's a forced retirement plan.

Yes, it is a forced retirement plan in that taxes are collected to pay for it but no one is forced to receive benefits from it. As I recall, Ronald Reagan never applied for benefits.

And our representatives (99% of the Dems/libs politicians in DC) aren't listening and are not voting per the American peoples wishes on this issue and for that matter on the "bailout" and spending bills of the Pelosi/Read/Nobama government either.

So, it isn't like the proposed healthcare mandate.

Your little smilie above doesn't change the fact that you were wrong and that the American people, by a large majority, don't want what Nobama/Pelosi/Read are trying to force them to eat. Period!

You're right. The public wants the public option. Just a matter of time before they get it.
