Both sides of this discussion has warrant, and to not acknowledge this is just odd, imo:
- Some were initially skeptical of Holtz with the way his USF tenure went down. No amount of pointing to ECU records would stem the tide of concern. 2013 served to cultivate that concern. 2014 looks brighter, and may temper the concern. But the initial concern seemed somewhat warranted.
- Some gave the benefit of the doubt to Holtz based on his entire body of work. 2013 served as pass (ie. "cupboard bare", "first year"), causing them to withhold judgment as he settled in, got his feet under him, and got his program/plan in place. 2014 looks like things are coming to fruition, and validating their withholding of judgment and trust.
Neither side of the discussion showed more nor less fandom. Just different takes (and perhaps personalities) based on legitimate facts and valid opinions based on observation.
The Sunshine Pumpers aren't winners here, and the Cautiously Concerned (or Debbie Downers, even) aren't losers. To paint it as such is silly, to be honest. There's not a Sunshine Pumper that's not totally stoked to see their hope be rewarded, and for sure there's not one Cautiously Concerned that is not equally stoked to have their concerns somewhat relieved.
That said, I would love love love for T1 to be my boss/supervisor and Dogsince65 to be my granddad. I'd love to have a boss as optimistic about my potential and giving the benefit of the doubt as T1, and who couldn't appreciate a granddad who only sees the good? I'm gonna apply for a job wherever T1 works.
