I guess the self praise by these guys is that they have been pumping the staff and players since February while most were skeptical. I for one did not see these beat downs coming and am pleasantly surprised, but I try my best not to make assumptions on a team based on last year's results. UNT and LTU are prime examples...best to wait a few weeks into the season before making assumptions. I think we still have some god football games ahead of us that are going to be very competitive. The success of our team is key to the health of several key players...wasn't overly impressed by several back ups. Your resident optimist/realist MILOBUMP

Exactly and no harm in still being a little skeptical...BUT WE ARE EXCEEDING EXPECTATIONS RIGHT NOW...GO BULLDOGS!!!

Both sides of this discussion has warrant, and to not acknowledge this is just odd, imo:
    • Some were initially skeptical of Holtz with the way his USF tenure went down. No amount of pointing to ECU records would stem the tide of concern. 2013 served to cultivate that concern. 2014 looks brighter, and may temper the concern. But the initial concern seemed somewhat warranted.
    • Some gave the benefit of the doubt to Holtz based on his entire body of work. 2013 served as pass (ie. "cupboard bare", "first year"), causing them to withhold judgment as he settled in, got his feet under him, and got his program/plan in place. 2014 looks like things are coming to fruition, and validating their withholding of judgment and giving of trust.
Neither side of the discussion showed more nor less fandom. Just different takes (and perhaps personalities) based on legitimate facts and valid opinions based on observation.

The Sunshine Pumpers aren't winners here, and the Cautiously Concerned (or Debbie Downers, even) aren't losers. To paint it as such is silly, to be honest. There's not a Sunshine Pumper that's not totally stoked to see their hope be rewarded, and for sure there's not one Cautiously Concerned that is not equally stoked to have their concerns somewhat relieved.

That said, I would love love love for T1 to be my boss/supervisor and Dogsince65 to be my granddad. I'd love to have a boss as optimistic about my potential and giving the benefit of the doubt as T1, and who couldn't appreciate a granddad who only sees the good? I'm gonna apply for a job wherever T1 works.

And HD and MD could have coached our team to wins against Army and Tulane. What happens if a QB from Iowa sticks it out and doesn't come to to Tech? What happens if our defensive coordinator from last year decided to stay here? Remember, Holtz didn't fire him. But on the flip side, Coach Holtz did get those two talents when they became available so kudos to him for that. Those were good moves. All I'm saying is there is a thin line between where we were in 2012 to 2013 to right now and almost everyone on both sides of this issue had valid points in regards to coach Holtz and the entire Sunshine Pumper vs. Debbie Downer thing is stale. It's played out. So give it a rest. T1 and 65 didn't win tonight. And the people who were down on Holtz certainly didn't feel like they were winning last year. Tech won tonight! Which means we all did. So Go Dawgs Dammit!!
    Duly noted.

I think to say some were "initially skeptical" is a major understatement. More like explosively belligerent and are just now become skeptical. As rabiddawg can vouch, I've always supported Holtz, however, I'm still not sold we're going to have the year many seem to think we're building towards. I think we need to see more development from our players especially with how slowly it takes our offensive line to warm up. We're getting there, but I'm still waiting for the post-Auburn season. UTSA is going to be the toughest non-power we face, and I'm not sold on our team yet, but it's not because I don't think Holtz can't coach.

did you know out of all colleges in America we have the Second lowest number or 4-5 yr players? to me, that bodes well for future-- we only have around 18 players moving on --kinda cool

Im not as concerned about our back ups except at qb. I think players in mop up time relax because the game is for all intents and purposes over. Plus they may have been put in positions they dont practice in very often.

I have never been a fan of Holtz. I made the comment that he would have to walk on water before I change my mind. He and his staff gave us nothing to look forward to based on last year. Wow what a difference a year makes.

Keep it up Coach! I'm liking what i see this season!!

50 yrs of following and seen massive ebb and flows , sometime experience sharpens your opinion, sometimes it does not. My crew is much older and couple have played for Tech and NFL. I have been involved with few of our past players who signed with NFL -- worked with portion of their contracts. I will allow smarter people than me to influence my opinion ---I have not posted anything negative about Holtz or this years team -- my opinion has been consistent-- last year Holtz was dealt bad hand and he went and got what he needed to be competitive ( coaches/players) he is recruiting well. Oklahoma told us several things about team. Sokol is real deal and team never quit. My opinion has been ship is not sinking and the Negativity of BBB has run off a lot of good folks. If I had been wrong , I was more than prepared to be slammed. My opinion is that we have 9 more games to go and if we came out 3-2 by end Sept we have potential to have GREAT year. Injuries could change it. I also posted yesterday my opinion of what would happen last night. I said we had potential to blow NT out. I said Hunter would have big game. New player (Gaston) would be factor. Sokol would have solid game -they would not be able to pass and I mentioned Paul Turner. My opinion -- a fairly solid opinion

It's about 2 in the afternoon following a great Thursday night game and there are about 100 people on BBB. I like it!

easier for you to live in Lafayette I assume -- only 1 other football team in America has less seniors and 5th year players-- future looks solid-- worry about losing Diaz but lets enjoy him while we can
